After
watching "Disconnected" I really realized how dependent the world and
also myself is on the use of technology, especially the internet. Of course I knew that nearly everyone uses it
but since that is how I was brought up, I don't find it to be out of the
ordinary that we depend so much on the internet. I really don't know that I would be able to
go for three school weeks without my laptop because of how often I must turn in
my homework online; when not in school it would be possible.
I have a lot of respect for the people in the video who lasted for nearly all of the time they said they would since it would be much more work to look up all of your facts in books and use a typewriter. I thought it was funny how even the librarian who appeared to be an older lady thought the kids were crazy for giving up their computer use for three to four weeks before finals. In the future I can see books, encyclopedias, magazines, and old newspaper articles becoming pushed aside for the use of internet until they are hardly ever opened again. I do not however think that is a good thing, I believe younger kids should know how to use those resources just in case the internet ever goes down for an extended period of time. The world is so dependent on internet that it would cause complete chaos if it ever went unavailable. You can see the kids struggling to communicate, get homework done, find facts, etc. without using their computers and they look really bored and stressed out. Although in the old days they managed to get by without internet, there is no way our society could ever even think about going back to those ways.

I agree I don't think I could go three weeks without my laptop considering how much homework we have to do online for classes. It's sad how much everyone relys on the internet though books already have been pushed aside for the most part. The only reason i use books for research is when it's a requirement for a paper. I feel like kids in the future won't know how to use encyclopedias or dictionaries because they grow up in a society that doesn't recognize that using the internet is not always the best solution. I will be in shock if society ever tried to go without the internet. If it crashed people would be in such panic because everyone uses it for everything.
